Yesterday in Noida, military veterans celebrated Vijay Diwas in Sector 29 at Shaheed Smarak. This day is observed to celebrate India’s 1971 victory in the Indo-Pak war along with the liberation of the neighbouring country Bangladesh. In Noida was celebration was attended by around 100 people mostly Armed Forces veterans living in the city.

“There was a wreath-laying ceremony that was carried out with military precision and tri-service guards and buglers in attendance. The 1-hour programme started at 10 am. The next of kin of those who died in the war, civil dignitaries, bureaucrats and school students were present,” said Commander Narinder Mahajan (retd), a member of Noida Shaheed Smarak Sansthan (NSSS).
Earlier, Shaheed smarak in Noida was the tri-services memorial in India that honours soldiers who their lives on duty before the National War Memorial at India Gate was built. Back in 2002, on the 13th of April Shaheed Smarak in Noida was built, this year marks the 21st edition of the Vijay Diwas ceremony in Noida.
Vice Chief of the Air Staff Air Marshal Sandeep Singh was the chief guest at the event. Earlier, a victory wall was unveiled in Sector 27’s Arun Vihar township, a society where Indian Armed Forces veterans live.
“The event reminds the families of fallen heroes that the sacrifice of their loved ones will never be forgotten and that the country will keep on honouring them,” added Mahajan.
“It is an honour to pay homage to Indian Army braves who have made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. I compliment the NSSS for maintaining this Smarak in a pristine and excellent manner that brings our community together,” said Air Marshal Singh.
His wife Kamini Singh also attended the event, she distributed gifts to the next of kin of martyrs along with interacting with their families.
