Viral Video Suggests ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’ Is A Copy Of Hollywood Film, ‘Patch Adams’

Bollywood is known for serving audiences a dash of this and that. If a movie is a direct copy from another, like ‘Dil Bechara‘ or ‘Bhool Bhulaiya,’ it is explicitly mentioned in the launch post itself. But wouldn’t it be very disheartening to see the movie we loved the most in childhood turn out to be somewhat of a known version from another film?

Be it drawing inspiration or a mere coincidence, apparently, ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S’ is a copy of the Hollywood film ‘Patch Adams.’ There are scenes in both films that mirror each other. The Indian film is based on Munna Bhai, who is a gangster, but he takes a different route for himself to follow. He joins a nursing school to start his M.B.B.S journey, which does require a lot of care and concern and seems ironic for a gangster. But with his love for the subject and the better path, he tries to struggle through it anyway.

The scenes portrayed in ‘Patch Adams,’ like the one where patients are taken care of, the classroom discussions, and more, are a direct frame-by-frame copy of Munna Bhai. Fans on the internet are disheartened because of this; one said, “My whole perception of Munna Bhai MBBS is shaken! I never thought it could be so closely linked to Patch Adams.” The other used humor to cope with his disappointment by saying, “Bollywood walo ko har chiz copy krna hai mtlb kuch toh original de do bhai.”

Rajkumar Hirani is a brilliant director, with his specific way of story narration and communicating with the audience. Still, to the Indian audiences, he has not given out anything original as of yet. Hearts are broken with this news.”
