Summer-like temperatures felt across Japan

Record-High Temperatures Hit Japan’s Pacific Coast

Tokyo, Feb 21 (IANS) – Warm air flowing from the south drove temperatures higher in Japan’s Pacific Ocean coast regions on Tuesday, with record-high temperatures recorded at many locations, the weather agency said.

By 2 p.m. local time, record-high February temperatures were recorded at 78 locations nationwide, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The cities of Takasaki and Isesaki in Gunma prefecture had temperatures exceeding 25 degrees Celsius for the first time ever recorded in February, the JMA said as quoted by Xinhua news agency report.

Some other areas also experienced temperatures as warm as late April to mid-June, including central Tokyo, which reached 23.7 degrees, the highest temperature this year. The mercury rose because warm air from the south flowed into a front extending near Kanto, but the agency expected the winter cold to return on Wednesday.

The unusually warm weather was a result of warm air flowing from the south, causing record-high temperatures to be recorded at 78 locations nationwide by 2 p.m. local time. Takasaki and Isesaki in Gunma prefecture experienced temperatures exceeding 25 degrees Celsius for the first time ever recorded in February. Other areas, including central Tokyo, also saw temperatures as warm as late April to mid-June.

Weather officials attribute the rise in temperatures to warm air flowing into a front extending near Kanto. However, the agency expects the winter cold to return on Wednesday. The warm weather is expected to be short-lived, with temperatures set to decrease in the coming days.

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that the warm air flow from the south caused temperatures to soar, resulting in record-high temperatures across the country. This unusual phenomenon saw some locations experiencing temperatures as warm as late April to mid-June. However, the agency anticipates a return to winter cold on Wednesday.
