Ministry: Death toll in Gaza approaching 30,000 Palestinians

The Palestinian death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 29,954 as Israeli military killed 76 in the past 24 hours. The Hamas-run Health Ministry reported 110 others were wounded, bringing the total number of Palestinian injuries since early October to 70,325.

According to the Ministry, some victims remain under the rubble amid heavy bombardment and a lack of civil defence and ambulance crews. Israeli media outlets reported that two officers were killed and seven soldiers were injured during battles in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll to 582.

Israel’s ground operations continued throughout the Gaza Strip with air and naval bombardment, destroying tunnels and other Hamas infrastructure. The Israeli army aims to eliminate “terrorist cells” and seize large quantities of weapons, as stated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesman Daniel Hagari.

The ongoing large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip is in retaliation for a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on October 7, 2023. During the attack, about 1,200 people were killed and more than 200 were taken hostage. The IDF aims to ensure such an attack never happens again.
