AIIMS Bhopal to provide free cervical cancer vaccines for girls aged 9-14

In an effort to combat cervical cancer, AIIMS Bhopal will offer free vaccines to girls aged 9 to 14. The initiative aims to reach those vulnerable to the disease and prevent future cases. The medical facility has received 262 doses of vaccines for this purpose, marking a significant step in promoting women’s health.

According to Executive Director Dr. Ajai Singh, the vaccines will be provided free of cost to girls in the specified age group. With only 262 doses available, 161 girls will be able to receive the two-dose vaccination over a period of six months. This marks the first time such vaccines will be offered free of cost in the country, highlighting the importance of preventative measures in addressing the high incidence of cervical cancer in India.

Cervical cancer is a significant health concern in India, affecting approximately 13 lakh women annually and claiming the lives of around 80,000 individuals. Although the exact data for Madhya Pradesh is not available, the state has been noted to have a high burden of cervical cancer cases. The initiative by AIIMS Bhopal underscores the urgent need for preventive measures to address this health issue within the community.

Dr. Singh emphasized the value of the vaccines, priced at approximately Rs 4,000 each, which will be administered free of cost to eligible girls. The two-dose vaccination regimen is designed to significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer development in young girls, highlighting the importance of early intervention and prevention. AIIMS Bhopal and Vishwanath Care Foundation are working together to make this preventive measure accessible to vulnerable populations, showcasing their commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of future generations.
