Tamil Nadu CB-CID creates special team to locate missing ex-DGP Rajesh Das

Chennai, March 10 (IANS) The Crime Branch-CID of Tamil Nadu has formed a special team to locate former Tamil Nadu DGP, Rajesh Das, who has been missing. Das was convicted by the Villupuram District Court for sexual harassment of a woman police officer and was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

The District Court has instructed the police to establish a special team to apprehend Rajesh Das, who has been evading arrest for the past month. Despite earlier provided addresses, he remains untraceable. On June 16, 2023, he was sentenced by the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Villupuram, for the harassment of a woman police officer.

Following the conviction, Das sought relief from the Villupuram District Court and later the Madras High Court, alleging unfair trial proceedings. On January 9, the Madras High Court denied his appeal. Undeterred, the former DGP appealed to the Supreme Court, but his Special Leave Petition was also rejected.

The search for Rajesh Das continues as the Crime Branch-CID intensifies its efforts to bring him to justice. Despite his attempts to avoid arrest, the law enforcement agencies are determined to carry out the court’s orders.
