Iraqi airstrikes kill 6 IS militants

Six Islamic State militants were killed in airstrikes by Iraqi warplanes in a desert area between Salahudin and Nineveh provinces. The airstrikes were based on intelligence reports and targeted militants hiding inside a tunnel in the Tharthar desert. The Iraqi military confirmed the deaths in a statement from the Security Media Cell.

According to Tahsin al-Khafaji, spokesperson for the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, the airstrikes successfully eliminated all the militants inside the tunnel, which was a strategic hideout for carrying out attacks in various provinces. The exact date of the airstrikes was not disclosed.

The security situation in Iraq has seen improvements since the defeat of IS in 2017. However, remnants of the terrorist group continue to pose a threat, infiltrating urban areas, deserts, and rugged terrain to carry out guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.

The Iraqi military remains vigilant in its efforts to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of the region. The successful airstrikes serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat posed by IS remnants and the importance of continuous efforts to counter terrorism in the country.
