Reported explosion near commercial ship off coast of Yemen

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has issued a warning following an explosion near a commercial ship off the coast of Yemen. The incident occurred 71 nautical miles southwest of the port city of Saleef. The cause of the explosion is still unknown, as reported by the UKMTO on Monday.

The master of the ship heard the explosion but the crew is safe. The US-led coalition forces are investigating the incident. No group has claimed responsibility for the explosion yet. The Houthi group has been targeting commercial shipping in the region since November, citing Israeli strikes in Gaza as the reason.

In response to the attacks, the US and Britain have launched air and missile strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen. However, instead of reducing the rebels’ capabilities, the strikes have led to further escalation by the Houthi forces. The situation remains tense in the region as the investigation into the recent explosion continues.
