EU allocates 500 million euros for ammunition manufacturing
The European Commission has allocated 500 million euros to boost ammunition production to support the European defence industry. This funding will increase the industry’s ammunition production to two million shells per year by 2025, with current capacity at 1 million shells annually for 155 mm shells.
To support this initiative, the commission has selected 31 projects in explosives, powder, shells, missiles, and testing and reconditioning certification. In addition, they have launched work programs to reinforce the European defence industry through common procurement, with a total budget of nearly 2 billion euros.
The European Commission’s announcement comes as part of their efforts to enhance the European defence technological and industrial base. This funding will further strengthen the ammunition production capabilities of the European defence industry, with a focus on increasing production and readiness for the future.
