New Delhi, March 22 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Bhutan’s highest civilian honor, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, during his two-day official visit to the country. King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck conferred the award, making PM Modi the first foreign head of government to receive this prestigious recognition.
Arriving amidst a warm reception, PM Modi expressed his gratitude by dedicating the award to the 140 crore Indians. He stated, “Honoured to be conferred with ‘Order of the Druk Gyalpo’ Award by Bhutan. I dedicate it to 140 crore Indians.”
The Order of the Druk Gyalpo is a lifetime achievement decoration and is considered the highest honor in Bhutan’s honor system. So far, only four individuals have been recipients of this prestigious award, including Her Majesty Royal Queen Grandmother Ashi Kesang Choden Wangchuck, His Holiness Je Thrizur Tenzin Dendup, and His Holiness Je Khenpo Trulku Ngawang Jigme Choedra.
The award ceremony highlights the close ties between India and Bhutan, with PM Modi’s visit reinforcing the strong diplomatic relations between the two nations. This recognition further strengthens the bond and cooperation between India and Bhutan in various fields.
