LS Polls: PM Modi Encourages Female Candidates, Congress Criticized for Disparaging ‘Women Power’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held telephonic conversations with two women Lok Sabha candidates, Rekha Patra and Prof. TN Sarasu. He not only enquired about their campaigning but also assured personal and party support in helping them strategize their electoral approach.

PM Modi described Rekha Patra as ‘Shakti Swaroopa’ and lent a listening ear to TN Sarasu’s challenges as a college professor. He wished them good luck and assured them of full support, highlighting the BJP’s commitment to women empowerment.

By motivating and boosting the morale of women nominees, PM Modi emphasizes the government’s priorities for increased women’s participation in the public sphere. This aligns with initiatives like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ and the push for the women’s reservation bill.

In contrast, the Congress is facing criticism for its treatment of women candidates. In a series of missteps, party members made denigrating remarks about actress Kangana Ranaut’s candidacy, reflecting a perceived anti-women mindset within the party.

As the BJP focuses on empowering women and showcasing strong leadership, the political optics favor PM Modi’s approach. The question now arises whether the Congress’s actions stem from desperation and a focus on anti-BJP sentiments rather than genuine support for women candidates in the upcoming elections.
