Mukhtar Ansari Dies from Heart Attack in Banda, Heightened Security in UP

Jailed gangster and politician Mukhtar Ansari passed away in Banda, UP, after suffering a heart attack at the age of 60. Ansari collapsed during a medical check-up in Banda jail and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Earlier in the week, Ansari’s health had worsened, leading to his brief admission to the ICU at Banda Medical College. Despite being discharged the same day, Ansari had previously claimed to have been given food laced with poison in jail.

With over 60 criminal cases pending against him, Ansari had been sentenced in eight cases since September 2022 and was incarcerated in Banda jail. His name was also on the list of 66 gangsters issued by Uttar Pradesh Police in 2023.

Born in 1963, Ansari had served as an MLA from Mau multiple times and faced allegations of being killed in a fake encounter by his family members. The recent sentencing to life imprisonment in a fake gun license case marked another chapter in his tumultuous political career.

Following his demise, a large crowd gathered outside his ancestral home in Ghazipur as his family made their way to Banda. Authorities have heightened security measures in the area and imposed prohibitory orders to maintain peace.

The death of Mukhtar Ansari, a controversial figure in Indian politics, has sparked discussions about the criminal justice system and prison conditions in the country. As investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his passing, there is a mix of mourning and speculation about his legacy.
