L-G office calls out Delhi government for misleading courts, demands accountability and transparency

New Delhi, April 4 (IANS) The Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V.K. Saxena, has written to Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla alleging that the Delhi government has been attempting to mislead the courts by filing motivated petitions and presenting false affidavits to influence the justice delivery system.

In the letter, Saxena highlighted that the prevalent norm in various court matters has been ‘GNCTD vs Lt. Governor,’ indicating a trend of misleading the courts and creating a false media narrative to malign the constitutional office of the L-G.

The letter pointed out a case in the Supreme Court where the GNCTD was criticized for delays in funding infrastructure projects for the judiciary, approved by the Delhi High Court since 2019. It also mentioned an ongoing case in the Delhi High Court regarding the excise policy, citing delays due to misrepresentation by the government counsel.

Additionally, the letter referenced a writ petition filed by the Delhi government for the re-operationalization of the ‘Farishtey’ scheme, accusing the government of falsely attributing its stoppage to the L-G, which led to a notice being issued by the Supreme Court.

Saxena clarified that the data regarding the beneficiaries and payments under the ‘Farishtey’ scheme during FY 2022-23 did not support the claims of non-payment made by the government officials. The letter highlighted the wastage of public resources on unnecessary litigations by the Delhi government.

By bringing these issues to the attention of the Home Ministry, Saxena aimed to keep them informed about the misleading tactics employed by the GNCTD in the courts, emphasizing the need to address avoidable litigations that waste public funds and resources.
