Kuwaiti voters began casting their ballots on Thursday to elect members of the National Assembly, in the first parliamentary elections since Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah took office. Polling stations welcomed around 844,000 eligible voters, with voting to last until midnight.

Ahmed Al-Hajri, director of the Elections Affairs Department, reported a strong initial turnout within the first hour of voting at the 123 polling stations across Kuwait. Voters have a choice of 200 candidates to elect 50 deputies for the National Assembly.

The previous elections for Kuwait’s National Assembly took place on June 6, 2023. This election marks a significant milestone as it is the first to occur under Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s leadership. Stay tuned for more updates on the election results.
