A nation is secure only if states are secure: Siddaramaiah

Karnataka CM reiterates the importance of state security in maintaining national security while criticizing the Centre for weakening the states. In a reply to the debate on the Governor’s speech in the Legislative Council, Siddaramaiah emphasized the need to protect the interests of Kannadigas and uphold the federal system.

Siddaramaiah stated, “As the budget size of the Centre increases, the share of the state should also increase accordingly. However, even as the budget size of the Centre is increasing, the share of taxes and grants due to the Kannadigas is decreasing. It is our duty to protect the Kannadigas. If the state is strong, the Centre will be strong,”

The CM called out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of ‘cooperative federalism’, stating that the same is not reflected in the behavior of the Central government. He highlighted the need for the Centre to uphold the principles of federalism and ensure that the states are not weakened in the process.

Siddaramaiah’s remarks come amidst ongoing debates and discussions regarding the allocation of funds and resources between the Centre and the states. The CM’s emphasis on the importance of state security in maintaining national security reflects the growing concerns and discussions within the political landscape.
