AIFF forms committee to probe incident in IWL 2 in Goa

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has formed a committee to investigate the alleged physical assault and harassment of women footballers by an official during the Indian Women’s League-2 in Goa. The incident was reported by players from Khad FC, prompting AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey to take action.

The committee, chaired by Pinky Bompal Magar, includes Rita Jairath and Vijay Bali. They have been tasked to submit a report within seven days. Meanwhile, the accused official, Deepak Sharma, has been instructed to refrain from football-related activities until the investigation is complete. The AIFF is also ensuring the safe passage of the players involved.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has expressed concern over the incident and directed the AIFF to take swift action to ensure the safety and security of women footballers. The ministry has emphasized the need for strong legal action and has prioritized the safety of the players.

The alleged assault occurred when some women football players from Himachal were reportedly attacked for boiling eggs in their hotel room during their participation in the IWL 2023-24 in Goa. The ministry and AIFF are working together to address the issue and ensure justice for the affected players.
