Akshay Kumar-starrer Bachchhan Paandey opened with a bang and has made Rs 12-15 crores on the first day. Khiladi Kumar fans have lapped up the flick. Bachchhan Paandey has opened to positive reviews with plenty of action and humor. The movie stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Kriti Sanon also. The film also has Prateik Babbar, Saharsh Kumar Shukla, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhimanyu Singh, Snehal Daabbi, and Arshad Warsi. The film is a remake of the hit Tamil film ‘Jigarthanda’ released in 2014.

Bachchhan Paandey first day collection- Rs 12-15 crores

Earlier, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle and tweeted, “#BachchhanPaandey will be impacted [business-wise] due to #TheKashmirFiles juggernaut… The screen count, as well as allotment of shows, has been affected since #TheKashmirFiles is dominating the screen space in Week 2 also.”

Sajid Nadiadwala produced the film, written by Nischay Kuttanda and helmed by Farhad Samji. Unfortunately, the film release was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. It was scheduled to be released on December 25, 2020.

Predictable Storyline

The storyline is not new or novel. An assistant director (Kriti) wants to make a biopic of a dreaded gangster Bachchhan Paandey (Akshay). How she makes the film and how a Don is reformed is the film’s crux. There is nothing new since Indians have heard about such stories for ages, and there is no drought of stories of how Valmiki or Unglimaal were reformed.

Film Lacks Continuity

The film suffers from some significant drawbacks. The storyline is predictable, and director Farhad Samji failed to live up to the original film ‘Jigarthanda’ on which this Kumar Starrer is based. Further, caricaturing everything erodes the aura of dread and fear around the main character. Finally, the delay in making the film is much too evident. Lockdown protocols forced the filmmaking to extend over a while, and Bachchhan Paandey is akin to a 10-minute chunk each day and then sewed to make one. As a result, it lacks continuity till the very end.

With the ‘Kashmir Files’ blitzkrieg rolling across the nation, it is improbable that others will view the flick besides die-hard Akshay fans. The film has opened with a bang, but time will tell if it can sustain its initial success.
