In 2023, the Ekadashi tithi commences on 29th June at 03:18 AM and ends on 30th June at 02:42 AM. As for the Parana time, it will begin on 30th June from 01:48 PM to 04:36 PM. Additionally, the Hari Vasara ended on 30th June at 08:20 AM.
Significance
The festival holds great significance in the Hindu religion. The term Dev denotes God while the Shayan means to sleep or rest, meaning God rest or sleeps in Ksheer Sagar (milky ocean) on Sheshnaag after the festival i.e. Ekadashi. It has been believed that Lord Visnu during this time goes into complete Yog Nidra i.e. complete state of relaxation. The festival also goes by the name of Hari Shayani Ekadashi.
When the Lord Visnu goes into complete relaxation, he wakes up after long 4 months on Dev Uthani Ekadashi and Prabodhini Ekadashi. The time of four months is called Chaturmas. However, this year in 2023, this period will be of 5 months. Ashadhi Ekadashi or say Devshayani Ekadashi mostly celebrated in the state of Maharashtra. Make like to observe this day by keeping fast and worshipping the Lord Visnu. Prayers are done and bhog is distributed among devotees.
