Farmers’ demands being ignored by government
Chandigarh, March 1 (IANS) Farmer leader Sarwan Pandher remains firm on agitation until demands are met, accusing government of neglecting farmers’ concerns. He stated, “Rather than paying attention to farmers, they are focused on how to win the elections.”
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) are leading the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march to pressure the government to ensure a legal guarantee of minimum support price for crops. Despite the ongoing deadlock, farmers decided to suspend the march from February 23 to February 29.
Protesting farmers from Punjab have been stationed at Khanauri and Shambhu points on the Punjab-Haryana border since February 13, after being prevented from reaching the national capital by security forces. Sarwan Pandher’s remarks highlight the ongoing struggle faced by farmers in their pursuit of fair treatment and recognition of their demands.
