Fatal mass shooting and fire at Moscow mall results in numerous casualties
At least 10 people were killed in a horrific attack at a Moscow mall, where gunmen armed with assault rifles randomly targeted people and set a concert hall on fire. The attack took place during a concert just as the famous rock band Piknik was about to perform, causing chaos and panic among the concertgoers.
The Crocus City mall in northwest Moscow was the scene of the deadly assault, which began around 8 p.m. local time. The assailants, clad in body armour, targeted fleeing concert attendees, resulting in at least 10 fatalities and more than 50 injuries. The scale of the attack and the subsequent fire led to the collapse of the building’s roof, according to local media reports.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the incident, with a large number of ambulances and heavily armed police special operation units deployed to the mall. Despite the chaos, the attackers did not attempt to take hostages or make any statements, instead indiscriminately shooting people before barricading themselves inside the burning building.
Explosions were also reported in the area as the situation unfolded. Authorities are working to bring the situation under control and secure the area. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, as investigators continue to gather information to determine the perpetrators’ identities and reasons behind the deadly assault.
