Fernando Alonso Extends Formula 1 Stay with Aston Martin Racing Until 2026

Suzuka (Japan), April 12 (IANS) – Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has signed a new deal with Aston Martin Racing to continue racing in Formula 1 until 2026. This extension solidifies his partnership with the team into the next era of the sport.

Alonso, who achieved eight podiums last season, remains a top competitor in F1. “There has been much said and written about my future in Formula One, but today I’m delighted to announce that I’m here to stay with Aston Martin Aramco in a multi-year agreement,” said Alonso.

Since joining Aston Martin in 2023, Alonso has had a successful run with six podium finishes in the first eight races, leading the team to significant improvements in the constructors’ standings. Team Principal Mike Krack expressed excitement over the extended partnership, emphasizing their shared commitment to success.

Despite a modest start to the 2024 season, Aston Martin is determined to continue their pursuit of excellence. The team currently sits in fifth place behind top contenders like Red Bull and Mercedes, showcasing their competitive spirit with consistent top-10 finishes.

Alonso’s decision to stay with Aston Martin comes amidst speculation about his future following Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. Team Principal Mike Krack praised Alonso’s dedication and hunger for success, highlighting their shared goal of making Aston Martin Aramco a formidable force in F1.

With this new multi-year agreement, Aston Martin looks forward to further success as they prepare to enter a works power unit partnership with Honda in 2026. The team is focused on creating more memorable moments and achieving greater success together in the coming years.
