He played for the Gauteng Lions and then the Cats in Super Rugby.
Strydom made his Springboks breakthrough abroad in 1993, traveling to Argentina and Australia. He participated in the 1995 World Cup, making it to the final, and featured in nine tour matches and the test match versus the 1997 British Lions while still serving South Africa until 1997.
