Hector SUV contributes to MG Motor’s 18% growth in February
MG Motor has seen an 18 percent growth in sales in February, with the Hector SUV leading the pack. The British-owned Chinese automaker sold 4,532 units last month, a significant increase from January’s sales of 3,825 units. Overall, MG Motor has sold around 14 percent of its 2023 sales figures within the first two months of 2024, showcasing a strong start to the year.
The Hector SUV continues to be MG Motor’s best-selling model in India. Despite not disclosing specific sales numbers for each model, the Hector remained the top seller for the carmaker in 2023. Launched in January last year, the facelifted version of the SUV competes with popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. With a price range starting from ₹14.95 lakh (ex-showroom) to ₹21.95 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant, the Hector maintains its popularity in the market.
MG Motor’s focus on electric vehicles has also paid off, constituting around 33 percent of the overall sales in February. This translates to more than 1,400 electric cars sold last month, including models like the ZS EV and Comet EV. Currently the second-largest player in the passenger electric vehicle segment, MG Motor aims to expand its EV lineup and launch five new cars in India by 2028, with a significant emphasis on electric vehicles.
In line with its electric vehicle strategy, MG Motor is planning to assemble EV batteries at its Gujarat facility. This move underscores the automaker’s commitment to sustainable mobility and positions them as a key player in the evolving electric vehicle landscape. With a strong sales performance and a clear focus on electric vehicles, MG Motor is setting the stage for continued growth in the Indian market.
