The Taliban claimed to take over the last part of Afghanistan, Panjshir. Oppositions claimed that they will still continue their fight with the Taliban from the mountains. Taliban said that the capture of the Panjshir valley completed and have full control over Afghanistan.  They will soon announce the new government soon.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said in a press conference that Panjshir, which was the last hideout of the escapee enemy, is captured.

After Kabul fell to the Taliban three weeks earlier the last part of Afghanisthan, Panjashir is also believed to be under the Taliban.

There is a viral photo on social media showing that Talibani’s are standing in front of the gate of the Panjshir provincial governor’s compound. They fought a with the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan (NRFA), led by Panjshiri leader Ahmad Massoud.

The Taliban have restricted Afghanistan’s media from reporting about Massoud’s or showing his messages.

Taliban has also started the formation of a government. Taliban may choose Mullah Hassan Akhund as the next Prime Minister of Afghanistan. He is on the UN terror list for many years.

What is going in Panjshir?

Massoud released an audio message and called for a national uprising against the Taliban. According to Al Jazeera, he said that wherever you are, inside or outside, I call on you to begin a national uprising for the dignity, freedom and prosperity of our country.

Ahmad Massoud-led forces and the Taliban are fighting in Panjshir for many days. However, there is no clarity on the status of  Panjshir valley i.e whether it is fully captured or not. The claims and counterclaims are from both sides are still going on. However, the National Resistance Front’s (NRF) fight against the Taliban’s has been slower.

What Ahmad Massoud is doing in Panjashir?

 Ahmad Massoud has 10,000 well-trained fighters of the locals and former members of Afghanistan’s military forces. Ahmad Massoud has also organized their training to fight against the Taliban.

Former Afghan vice president Amrullah Saleh also announced his support to Ahmad Massoud and his fight in Panjashir. The Afghan National Army (ANA) members also joined them under the leadership of Massoud.

Massoud, is the son of late Ahmad Shah Massoud. Ahmad Shah Massoud fought in Panjashir against the Taliban during the first rule of the Taliban from 1996 to 2001. 

Ahmad Massoud studied in London. He met French President Emmanuel Macron to seek his support in the fight against the Taliban. It is said that many countries are indirectly supporting Massoud’s forces. He is also indirectly getting foreign support from various other countries.
