‘The Kashmir Files’ Review: An Eye Opener, The Story of Transient of The Kashmiri Hindus

The Kashmir Files is perhaps a difficult film to watch. It will officially be released on March 11, 2022. Though the film has premiered before. Here’s a short review of the storyline of the film.

Introduction To The Movie

It wasn’t just any old film. Aside from the artistic magnificence, it was an eye-opener.  The reality that Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri spent four years making the film, with close to 700 difficult interviews from the first survivors of the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, is no minor effort.

Background Of The Real Affairs

The film opens with the true narrative of Satish Tickoo’s assassination by JKLF terrorists and then goes on to illustrate how they strolled through Srinagar equipped, looking for Pandits like ravening leeches, only to kill them after finding them, cleaning out families, and ruining them. The JKLF terrorists spared no one, including women and children. Without getting into the legalities of it all, that moment sets the standard and is the most definitive beginning to files that take the gauze off and what you see afterward, for most would support the abdication of Article 370, at least theoretically.

As a separate note, religious fanaticism of any kind is strictly prohibited. I felt compelled to say something before being dubbed “islamophobic,” “right-wing,” and whatever the polarised world has swiftly named you these times. While writing this post, I felt the need to emphasize that I am a centrist, and this is not meant to be an explanation to either side of the political divide.

The Kashmir Files reveals previously unknown stories such as separatist sympathizing politicians, the influence of religious extremism, a media that overlooked the terrible reality on the ground, and the glorifying of terrorists as rebels.

These are important stories to tell, and many soft separatists may find them difficult to stomach. Consider this: if the Kashmiri Hindus had suffered such horrible atrocities, would you not put your political beliefs aside just for mankind and wish for some resolution for the first generation sufferers in their quest for justice?
