A woman has been stabbed in a “vicious and unprovoked assault” while walking with her five-year-old son.

Higher Manchester Police stated the 24-year-old was approached by a person with a knife in Rudheath Avenue, Withington at about 13:30 BST on Saturday.

She suffered wounds to her leg within the assault and was taken to hospital the place she is in a steady situation.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of tried homicide and is being questioned by detectives.

The kid was assessed on the scene by the emergency providers and had no seen accidents.

Police earlier issued photographs of a person they wished to query in regards to the assault, who was final seen making off on foot on to Bromborough Avenue after which persevering with within the path of Whitchurch Street.

Det Insp John Robb stated: “This was a vicious assault through which a woman was stabbed in entrance of her younger son.

“Our ideas are with her and her household as she recovers from this stunning ordeal.”
