Preparations for big action against All Party Hurriyat Conference, Center may ban both groups – Reports

The Central government is ready to ban All Party Hurriyat Conference under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), reported by Indian Express. After the ban on movement of funds can happen by All Party Hurriyat Conference and security agencies may seize their account. It will give authority to the agencies to arrest any person associated with the Hurriyat.

There are two factions i.e. hardline and moderate factions. Ashraf Sehrai is the leader of the hardline faction and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is the leader of a moderate faction.  Though the final decision is not yet taken the discussion is still undergoing as per media reports.

The Hurriyat Conference was started in 1993 with 26 groups. Some of them were pro-Pakistan groups and banned earlier such as the Jamaat-e-Islami, JKLF and the Dukhtaran-e-Millat. It also included the People’s Conference and the Awami Action Committee headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Later on Hurriyat, one group was separated and two factions in 2005 were formed. In 2019 also Central government banned the Jamaat-e-Islami and the JKLF under the UAPA.

NIA arrested 18 separatist leaders earlier for terror funding. They also filed a charge sheet against 12 people of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen head Syed Salahuddin.

Amit Shah in a recent press conference said that those (in Kashmir) who have anti-India thoughts in their minds should fear us. We are not members of the tukde-tukde gang.

The NIA accused Pakistan in its recent charge sheets and claimed that the allotment of medical and engineering seats in Pakistani is a major racket that funds anti-India forces in Kashmir. They added that it shows a triangular nexus wherein the terrorists, the Hurriyat and the Pakistani establishment are the three verticals, and they are ostensibly patronizing the Kashmiri students in order to prepare a generation of doctors and technocrats in Kashmir who will have leanings towards Pakistan.
