South African anti-apartheid Social Activist Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim dies aged 84

Indian-origin anti-apartheid social activist who had worked with Nelson Mandela, Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim passed away on Tuesday at the age of 84. Let us tell you, Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim spent years in captivity on Robben Island with two big south African leaders, Nelson Mandela and Ahmed Kathrada.

His death news has been confirmed by South Africa’s current ruling party, the African National Congress (ANC). Parties spokesperson stated that long time ill, Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim died at his house. The ANC has condoled his death.

The party said Com Ibi (Ismail’s nickname) was a long-time member of the African National Congress. He had served the country at various levels. He joined the apartheid movement at the age of just 13 and lived as a prisoner with Freedom Fighter and Former President Nelson Mandela on Robben Island.

Let us tell you Ismail was greatly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha. Ibrahim was arrested in 1963 and prisoned on Robben Island, where he spent time with former South African President Jacob Zuma as well. He also had two university degrees while spending time on Robben Island.

After being freed from captivity, Ibrahim Ismail Ibrahim went into exile, and there he continued to work for the African National Congress (ANC). However, he was arrested and once again imprisoned on Robben Island by the apartheid police again. Under Nelson Mandela’s leadership as South African President, Ibrahim served the country as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Parliamentary Counsel.
