Manoj Tiwari Felicitated by CAB, Retires from Cricket
Kolkata, Feb 19 (IANS) – The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) felicitated Bengal captain Manoj Tiwari for achieving over 10,000 runs in First-class cricket, as he also retired from the sport. The event took place at Eden Gardens where Tiwari was presented with a golden bat and ball memento by CAB President Snehasish Ganguly, marking the end of a remarkable cricketing career.
Tiwari was lauded for his extraordinary career spanning two decades, in which he amassed 10,000 runs in First-class cricket and another 5000 in List-A matches. CAB President Snehasish Ganguly praised Tiwari’s fitness, dedication, and passion, expressing regret that Tiwari didn’t have a longer career with the Indian team. Tiwari thanked his family and paid tribute to his late father, attributing his success to their unwavering support.
The former India skipper Sourav Ganguly credited Tiwari as a talented cricketer, stressing that his commitment to Bengal cricket made him a favorite son of the state. Former CAB President Avishek Dalmiya praised Tiwari’s passion and dedication towards the game and hoped that he would remain associated with cricket in some form.
Bengal’s Chief Selector Subhomoy Das praised Tiwari for his achievements and noted his influence on aggressive cricket. Bengal Coach L R Shukla commended Tiwari’s leadership and tenacity, highlighting his determination to win the Ranji Trophy. The event was also marked by video messages from Tiwari’s senior teammates, former India teammate, coaches, and squad members.
It was an emotional farewell for Manoj Tiwari, as he expressed his regret at not winning the Ranji Trophy for Bengal. Despite setbacks and personal struggles, Tiwari leaves a formidable legacy as one of the finest cricketers of Bengal and India.
