Election Commission requests report on hooch tragedy in Punjab

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has requested an urgent report from the Punjab Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) in response to the Sangrur hooch tragedy. Approximately 20 people have lost their lives, with 20 others currently receiving treatment in hospitals in Sangrur and Patiala districts.

The state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has communicated with the Chief Secretary and DGP, urging them to provide both a preliminary report and a detailed report on the incident. The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday, claiming the lives of 18 individuals while three others were hospitalized after consuming adulterated liquor in Sangrur, Punjab. The ECI is actively monitoring the situation to ensure accountability and appropriate measures are taken to prevent future tragedies.
