Justice Gangopadhyay Concludes Judicial Career with Recommendation for Action Against District Judge

Kolkata, March 4 (IANS) Calcutta High Court’s Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay recommended proceedings against a district judge in East Midnapore before ending his career on Monday. He recused himself from all cases and briefly heard a vigilance-related case against the judge, urging Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam to look into the matter.

Justice Gangopadhyay had announced his resignation on Sunday, stating that he would deal with pending cases on Monday and submit his resignation to the President on Tuesday. Upon leaving the court for the last time, he received tearful farewells from people gathered there.

During his farewell, Justice Gangopadhyay expressed his decision to pursue something else, declining requests to reconsider. He assured petitioners that his replacement would deliver justice, stating, “I have to go.”

As one woman tried to touch his feet, he declined and acknowledged the court as a “temple” for many. Justice Gangopadhyay left with a message that justice would still prevail under his successor’s guidance.

Overall, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay concluded his tenure on the bench by recommending proceedings against a district judge and bidding farewell with emotional interactions from well-wishers at the Calcutta High Court.
