After a shaky start in the first set, Shelton bounced back in the second set, winning key points against Evans. Despite facing a break point while serving at 4-5, 0/40 in the deciding set, Evans managed to stay in the match before Shelton capitalized on his opportunity in the tie-break.
At 33 years old, Evans broke serve in the following game but was unable to close out the match, ultimately losing in the tie-break to Shelton. The American sealed his victory with a forehand volley winner, showcasing his determination on the court.
In another exciting match, British player Jack Draper defeated seventh seed Tommy Paul 6-0, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half. This victory marked the third ATP Head2Head encounter between the two players this year, with Draper coming out on top by converting all three of his break points.
