TMC leaders stage all-night protest at Delhi police station

New Delhi: A delegation of Trinamool Congress leaders, detained on April 8 from the Election Commission office, continued their protest at the Mandir Marg police station despite being released the same day. The police action followed a demonstration by 10 TMC leaders, including MPs.

The detainees included Trinamool Rajya Sabha MPs Dola Sen, Sagarika Ghose, Saket Gokhale, Derek O’Brien, Mohammed Nadimul Haque, and former MPs Arpita Ghosh and Santanu Sen. The protest began after the delegation met with election officials and raised concerns about the misuse of central agencies in West Bengal.

Dola Sen expressed her disappointment with the Union government’s use of agencies like the ED, CBI, and NIA in West Bengal during the election period, citing a lack of a level playing field for political parties. She claimed that many TMC workers were being unjustly targeted by these agencies.

A police official explained that the TMC leaders were released but chose to remain at the police station premises, continuing their protest. The action taken by the police came after the 10-member Trinamool delegation sat in a dharna outside the EC office, demanding fair treatment for all political parties during elections.
