Two Customs officials, middleman held at Mundra port for bribery
In a recent development at Mundra Port in Kutch, Gujarat, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended two senior Customs officials and a middleman for allegedly accepting bribes. The individuals arrested were identified as Shailesh Gangdev and Alokkumar Dube, both Class 2 officers in the Customs Department, along with intermediary Ramesh Gadhvi.
The corruption scandal unfolded when a man importing handbags was asked for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh by the accused to avoid inspection and expedite the clearance process at the port. Not willing to engage in corrupt practices, the complainant sought help from the ACB, led by Police Inspector L.S. Chaudhary, to ensnare the wrongdoers.
During a sting operation, Gangdev and Ramesh Gadhvi were caught red-handed accepting the bribe at the port, while Dube, who was coordinating the illicit transaction over the phone, was also apprehended by the authorities. The swift action by the ACB highlights the commitment to eradicating corruption and upholding the rule of law in Gujarat.
The arrest of these Customs officials and the intermediary underscores the serious consequences of engaging in corrupt activities. The ACB’s proactive approach in tackling such crimes sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated in the state. As investigations continue, the authorities are determined to ensure accountability and transparency in all government departments to maintain the integrity of the system.
