Noida and Ghaziabad ramp up testing after Covid cases increase

Noida as well as the Ghaziabad health department has increased their Covid testing after there has been an increase in Covid-19 cases in the past few weeks. This week i.e Tuesday Ghaziabad reported 2 new cases while saw 19 cases the day before. This is the highest the district has seen so far. Currently, there are 55 active cases out of which 50 are under home isolation.

In March, 78 patients has been tested for Covid out of which 42 are men.”Out of the 78 cases, 69 were reported between March 21 and March 28. This suggests that Covid cases are on the rise. Cases were almost nil in January and February,” said RK Gupta, the district surveillance officer.

He further added- “A 30-bed isolation centre has been prepared for Covid patients at the District Combined Hospital, while the Covid ICU ward has also been made functional. Testing has also been ramped up. The health department carried out 631 RT-PCR tests and 151 antigen tests on Monday. Covid vaccination is being carried out at 43 centres in the district,” said Gupta. 

Based on data collected by the Health Department, Raj Nagar has the maximum number of Covid cases with Makaanpur coming in second spot and Kaila Bhatta as third. 

Noida and Ghaziabad are now taking the necessary steps to stop the virus from getting spread. 

District surveillance officer Dr. Amit Kumar said. “We have intensified contact tracing and testing of patients with Covid-like symptoms. Around 1,000 people are being tested every day. We have sensitised that officials at community health centres and public health centres on the rise. The number of Covid cases has started increasing in the past week,” he said. 

“In this season, we normally see a rise in influenza cases too. It becomes challenging as patients need multiple tests to find out whether they have influenza or Covid, as they are similar in terms of mode of transmission, high-risk population and symptoms. But treatment and isolation can easily help patients recover,” stated by Dr D K Gupta, chairman of Felix Hospital, Noida Sector 137.
