Punjab’s Leader of the Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa, challenged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Cultural Affairs Minister Anmol Gagan Maan to fulfill their promise of providing a minimum support price (MSP) on 22 crops during a public address on Monday. Bajwa highlighted the long-standing commitment made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before the 2022 Assembly Elections and demanded that the government follow through on its pledge.
According to Bajwa, both Anmol Gagan Maan and Bhagwant Mann had assured the public of implementing MSPs on 22 crops within minutes of forming the government. However, with two years having passed since the AAP assumed power, Bajwa urged the government to provide an explanation for failing to deliver on their promise. The opposition leader emphasized the urgency of the situation as Punjab’s farmers continue to face difficulties in protesting for MSP in Delhi.
Bajwa also criticized the BJP-led Union government for its reluctance to legalize the MSP, and called on Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to take immediate action by announcing the MSP without further delay. The opposition leader’s statements come at a time when the farmers’ unions and the Central government have been engaged in discussions regarding the MSP, adding to the urgency of the issue.
As Punjab’s farmers struggle to make their voices heard, Bajwa’s challenge to the AAP government reflects the growing frustration among the farming community. With the upcoming planting season approaching, the implementation of MSPs on 22 crops is crucial for the livelihoods of Punjab’s agricultural workforce.
