Congress in Gujarat Faces Double Blow as Arjun Modhwadia, Another Leader Resigns

In a significant setback to the Congress party in Gujarat, senior leader Arjun Modhwadia resigned from the party and his position as MLA. He is likely to join the BJP, as another Congress leader, Ambarish Der, also resigned expressing dissatisfaction with the party leadership’s decisions.

Modhwadia, a former Leader of the Opposition and ex-Gujarat unit Congress president, submitted his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, amidst public disagreements with the Congress’ central leadership. His departure is viewed as a substantial loss for the Congress in Gujarat, given his close association with the late leader Ahmed Patel.

Ambarish Der, a prominent figure in the Ahir community, announced his plans to rejoin the BJP in a ceremony at Gujarat BJP headquarters on March 5. He critiqued the Congress leadership’s approach, stating that the party should function more like a political entity rather than an NGO. Der emphasized that his return to the BJP would be unconditionally.
