Increased Security Measures for ‘Maha Shivratri’ Festival in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, March 6 (IANS) Uttar Pradesh DGP Prashant Kumar has issued security and traffic management guidelines for the Maha Shivaratri festival on March 8. Police will work closely with organisers to maintain law and order, with stringent security measures in place at ‘jalabhishek’ locations and along Kanwar yatra routes.

Prashant Kumar highlighted the need for a significant increase in police presence, with pickets, mobile patrols, and foot patrols deployed along the routes. Additional officers will be stationed, especially at night, to address emergencies and ensure pilgrim safety. UP112 vehicles will also be on standby.

To enhance security measures, festival registers will be updated, and potential trouble spots identified. Public address systems must remain fully functional, and more patrols will be deployed. Local intelligence units will monitor social media for any misleading content, as instructed by the DGP.

“We are fully prepared to ensure the safety of all participants during the Maha Shivaratri festival. Our focus is on maintaining law and order, and our officers are ready to address any situation that may arise,” said Prashant Kumar. Police commissioners, ADGs, IGs, DIGs, and district police chiefs have been instructed to implement the guidelines effectively and work closely with all stakeholders for a peaceful celebration.
