Request for scrapping ex-judge Gangopadhyay’s judgments in Bengal school job case filed in Calcutta HC

A fresh petition has been filed at a division bench of the Calcutta High Court demanding scrapping of all past judgments and orders passed by former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay in the multi-crore cash for school job case in West Bengal. The petition has been filed by candidates whose services were terminated due to allegedly securing school jobs through unfair means. Senior counsel Kalyan Bandyopadhyay is representing the petitioners in the matter.

The petition seeks to scrap all verdicts by Justice Gangopadhyay in relation to secondary and higher secondary teachers, as well as non-teaching staff in Group-C and Group-D categories. The petition is scheduled for a hearing on Thursday before a division bench of Justice Debangshu Basak and Justice Shabbar Rashidi. The petitioners argue that Justice Gangopadhyay’s decisions in the case may have been biased given his announcement to join the BJP after resigning from judiciary services.

Former judge Gangopadhyay, in response to the petition, stated that the petitioners may not be aware of legal provisions or may be attempting to mislead the court. He announced his decision to join BJP on March 5, leading the ruling Trinamool Congress to claim that his judgments and observations in the school job cases were biased. The matter remains under scrutiny as the petition moves forward in the legal process.
