Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel accuses BJP of filing FIR against him in Mahadev betting app case

Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel blamed the BJP after an FIR was registered against him in the Mahadev betting app case in Chhattisgarh. Baghel accused the BJP of planning a conspiracy to tarnish his image as the elections approach, claiming that the BJP is aware of losing in the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat.

Baghel questioned the timing of making the matter public on March 17 when the case was registered on March 4. He raised concerns about the disclosure of names of officers involved in the case, emphasizing the lack of transparency in the investigation.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Chhattisgarh Police booked Baghel and 20 others, including Mahadev App promoters, police officers, and bureaucrats from Baghel’s regime. The case came after the ED’s report submission to the state police, which had already arrested several accused in the case.

In a related development, the ED named Baghel in a supplementary chargesheet for allegedly receiving bribes from Mahadev app promoters in the UAE. The investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act revealed involvement of individuals in illegal betting operations worth several thousand crores.

Baghel’s candidacy from the Rajnandgaon constituency adds a political dimension to the case. The allegations and controversies surrounding the Mahadev betting app case continue to unfold as the elections near, raising questions about the integrity of the political landscape in Chhattisgarh.
