Income Tax Raid at Bengal Minister’s Brother’s Residence in Kolkata

The Income Tax raid and search operation at the residence of Swarup Biswas, the younger brother of West Bengal Power and Housing Minister, Aroop Biswas, continued in Kolkata. The raid started on Wednesday morning and was ongoing till the time of reporting.

Income Tax sleuths conducted raids at six different places, including Biswas’s residence in New Alipore, South Kolkata. The party office of Biswas’s wife, Jui Biswas, a ruling party councillor, was also raided along with offices of real estate entities linked to Biswas.

Crucial documents were recovered during the operation, which is based on specific clues of major tax defalcations. The exact links between Biswas and the real estate development agencies under scanner remain unclear. The raiding officials also questioned Biswas during the raid.

The Income Tax officials are yet to disclose further details about the operation and the reasons behind the raids. The raid at Biswas’s residence and other locations in Kolkata has raised questions about tax compliance and possible discrepancies in financial transactions.
