CPI announces Awadesh Kumar Rai as candidate for Begusarai in Bihar

The Communist Party of India (CPI) has announced Awadesh Kumar Rai as its candidate for the Begusarai Lok Sabha seat in Bihar. The seat will go to polls on May 13. CPI General Secretary, D. Raja, stated that negotiations are ongoing with RJD for one more seat in Bihar.

Raja mentioned, “We had demanded two seats for the party and RJD national President Lalu Prasad Yadav has given one seat so far. We have given the ticket to Awadesh Kumar Rai to contest the Begusarai seat. He will be the candidate of INDIA bloc for this seat.” Discussions on the seat-sharing formula for Bihar are in progress.

The Congress was also interested in the Begusarai seat for Kanhaiya Kumar, who lost to BJP’s Giriraj Singh in the 2019 elections. Kanhaiya Kumar, now in the Congress, hails from the district. The INDIA bloc’s seat-sharing formula in Bihar is yet to be finalized while the RJD has already announced tickets for some party candidates.
