Picture of Benjamin Basumatary, Assam’s Politician Sleeping on Bed of ₹500 Notes Goes Viral 

A photo of a politician from Assam has gone viral all over the internet. Assamese politician, Benjamin Basumatary’s pictures of him sleeping on a pile of Rs 500 notes have gone viral.

As the Lok Sabha election 2024 is approaching, the pictures have triggered massive controversy among netizens online. Benjamin Basumatary is a suspended member of the United People’s Liberal Party.

The photo that went viral features the Assamese politician sleeping on a pile of ₹500 notes, bare-chested. The bundles of cash were kept all over his forehead, face, and body.

What UPPL Party Leader Has to Say On This 

As the picture went viral, the president of the United People’s Liberal Party, Pramod Boro, announced that Benjamin Basumatary was suspended from the party on January 10, 2023.

Pramod Boro went to X, formerly Twitter, and shared Benjamin Basumatary’s reaction to the viral photo.

The UPPL Leader stated,

“A malicious photo of Benjamin Basumatary has been widely spread by media and social media users associating it with UPPL. It has nothing to do with UPPL or the BTC Government. The photo was taken five years ago by Mr Basumatary’s friends while they were partying, and he was blackmailed with this photo thereafter. The cash in the photo was of Benjamin Basumatary’s sister.”

As per The Economic Times, Pramod Boro also mentioned the disciplinary actions that were taken against Benjamin. 

UPPL leader, Pramod Boro stated,

“I urge all media outlets and social media users to refrain from linking Mr. Basumatary with UPPL. His actions are solely his own responsibility, and the party is not accountable for any of his personal acts.”

Benjamin Basumatary’s Acceptance 

Benjamin Basumatary accepted that the picture was of him, but it was clicked at a party five years back by his friends. He clarified that the money featured in the photo belonged to his sister.

AAP Punjab took to its Twitter handle to share the viral photo. It added that neither any state agency of Assam nor CBI or ED had the guts to act against “members of the BJP’s alliance in Assam.
