ED starts questioning Shahjahan during interrogation at correctional facility following approval from Bengal court

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started interrogating suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan at a correctional home with the permission from Basirhat Sub-Divisional Court in North 24 Parganas District. Shahjahan is accused in the attack on ED and CAPF personnel at Sandeshkhali.

Shahjahan, currently in judicial custody at Basirhat sub-jail, was initially arrested by the West Bengal Police and later handed over to the CBI. The ED is now looking to get custody of Shahjahan for more detailed interrogation in connection with the PDS case.

The central agency has revealed that property worth Rs 13 crore owned by Shahjahan was confiscated, with a major portion of the proceeds being invested in his fish export business. Shahjahan is known to be a close confidant of former state Food & Supplies Minister Jyotipriya Mallick, who is also in judicial custody for his involvement in the PDS case.

The ED and accompanying CAPF personnel were attacked by Shahjahan’s associates in front of his residence in Sandeshkhali during a raid and search operation related to the PDS case. The ED now has concrete proof linking Shahjahan to the illegal activities.
