BJP workers requesting Delhi CM Kejriwal’s resignation sprayed with water cannons

New Delhi, March 26 (IANS) Delhi Police resorted to using water cannons to disperse BJP workers as they attempted to march towards the Secretariat demanding the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently in ED custody for the excise policy scam.

The police took action against the protesters, including detaining Delhi BJP President Virender Sachdeva, after they broke barricades at ITO and tried to move towards the Secretariat.

A senior police official stated, “No permission has been given to protest and we have detained people, who have been sent to a nearby police station. Police teams have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.”

Security measures at Delhi Secretariat have been heightened with adequate police force deployed and barricades installed to prevent further protests, according to another police official.

CM Kejriwal, arrested on March 21 and in ED custody until March 28, faces allegations of involvement in a conspiracy related to the excise policy formulation favoring specific individuals, as well as soliciting kickbacks from liquor businessmen in exchange for favors, as claimed by the probe agency.
