CEO’s office seizes over Rs 3 crore unaccounted for in Bengal since March 1

Unaccounted cash worth over Rs 3 crore has been seized by various Central and state agencies in West Bengal from March 1 till date, according to a senior official in the office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEI). Additional CEO Arindam Niyogi stated that cash, illegal liquor, narcotic substances, precious metals, and gift items have been confiscated during this period.

Niyogi highlighted that a total of 1,91,222 posters and banners violating Election Commission guidelines have been removed. Additionally, 140 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in different areas for monitoring, with continuous checks at 576 points across the state.

The seizures demonstrate a concerted effort to crack down on illicit activities during the election period. The significant amounts of unaccounted cash and illegal substances confiscated underscore the authorities’ commitment to maintaining fair and transparent elections in West Bengal.
