China urges investigation following deaths of 5 of its nationals in Pakistan suicide attack

China Demands Thorough Investigation After Attack Kills Five Nationals in Pakistan

Islamabad, March 26 (IANS) China has demanded a thorough investigation after five of its nationals and one Pakistani citizen were killed in an attack on a convoy in Besham city of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district. The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has requested an investigation into the attack.

Besham Station House Officer (SHO) confirmed that the incident claimed six lives, including five Chinese engineers and one Pakistani. The authorities are treating it as a “suicide blast” and are collecting evidence to determine the cause.

Security arrangements have been heightened at the scene, and the bodies are being transported to a hospital. The SHO stated, “We will investigate from where and how the vehicle of a suicide bomber came and how it happened.”

According to a rescue official, after the blast, the vehicle carrying the Chinese passengers fell into a gorge and caught fire. This tragic incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of Chinese nationals in Pakistan.

This attack comes after a similar incident in July 2021 when 13 people, including nine Chinese nationals, were killed in an explosion near the Dasu hydropower project. The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has reiterated its call for strict measures to ensure the safety of its citizens in the country.
