Constituency Update: Trinamool MP Faces Tough Battle in Kolkata-Uttar against Former Party Supporter
The Kolkata-Uttar Lok Sabha constituency, created in 2009, will see an interesting battle in the upcoming elections. Trinamool Congress member Sudip Bandopadhyay faces a challenge from former party loyalist Tapas Roy, now with BJP, and veteran Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya supported by the Left Front.
Bandopadhyay could have had an easy win if not for Roy’s entry into the race, complicating the scenario. Roy’s resignation from Trinamool Congress and subsequent joining of BJP has stirred controversy, with allegations of corruption orchestrated by Bandopadhyay.
Roy, known for his clean image and humble lifestyle, is seen as a strong challenger due to his appeal within the ruling Trinamool Congress as well. His focus on fighting corruption could sway supporters towards him, as the opposition defends him against any unjust allegations.
The election will also be significant as Bandopadhyay hints at retiring from electoral politics after this term, while Roy emphasizes his fight against corruption and commitment to raising West Bengal’s issues in Parliament if elected. The age factor also plays a role, with Roy being younger than both Bandopadhyay and Bhattacharya.
