Heightened Security Measures in Delhi Police in Anticipation of AAP Protests

New Delhi, March 24 (IANS) In response to the protest call by AAP, Delhi Police have ramped up security in the national capital. Heavy police presence was observed at key locations such as ITO, ED office, and roads leading to the BJP headquarters, following AAP’s announcement to hold protests against the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate.

AAP supporters, carrying posters saying ‘mei bhi Kejriwal’, were spotted protesting at the ITO footover bridge. A senior police official mentioned that security measures have been heightened to maintain law and order in Delhi. Paramilitary forces will be deployed alongside Delhi Police personnel, with senior officers monitoring districts to ensure prompt response to any protests.

“We will deploy paramilitary forces alongside Delhi Police personnel. Senior officers will oversee the situation in their respective districts. SHOs have been instructed to maintain strict surveillance in their areas and promptly inform their superiors of any protest,” said the official. The traffic police have also been instructed to manage traffic flow efficiently and arrange diversions if necessary during protest marches.

The AAP’s planned demonstrations include protests, candle marches, and burning effigies of the BJP government. The party expressed its dissent over the arrest of Arvind Kejriwal, with the protest actions aimed at condemning the government’s actions. The heightened security measures come in anticipation of potential unrest during these protests.

In light of the recent developments, the Delhi Police are taking proactive steps to ensure public safety and prevent any disruption caused by the planned AAP protests. The authorities are focused on maintaining order and ensuring the smooth functioning of the city while addressing the concerns raised by the opposition party.
