PM Modi to kick off UP poll campaign with rally in Meerut today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to kickstart the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut on Sunday. This will mark the first occasion when PM Modi and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) Chief Jayant Chaudhary will share the stage, a decade after BJP’s victory over RLD in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
RLD recently joined the BJP-led NDA after PM Modi announced Bharat Ratna for Chaudhary Charan Singh, Jayant’s grandfather. Jayant received the prestigious award from President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday.
The choice of Meerut for PM Modi’s rally is no coincidence, as it strategically aims to win over the Jats and Gurjars, two significant communities in the constituency. This move comes after BJP aligned with RLD to secure votes in the upcoming elections.
The campaign in Meerut also sees the BJP fielding actor Arun Govil, famous for playing Lord Ram in the TV serial Ramayan. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, supporting Govil, expressed confidence that he will be the face of Meerut and create history in the region.
Yogi Adityanath himself has been on a whirlwind tour of western Uttar Pradesh, covering 15 districts in just five days. The tour began on March 27 from Mathura and will conclude with an election meeting in Rampur on March 31, showcasing the NDA’s strength in the state.
Along with PM Modi, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and Jayant Chaudhary, other NDA allies in Uttar Pradesh are also expected to grace the rally in Meerut. The event is poised to kick off the election fervor in the state, setting the tone for the upcoming polls.
